What is Lipedema? It is not normal adipose tissue (fat).

Lipedema is a medical condition characterized by symmetric buildup of adipose tissue (fat) in the legs and arms and does not spread to the feet. This adipose tissue may be an unusual texture and feel like rice or peas beneath the skin surface. Common symptoms include fatigue, muscle pain, and/or easy bruising.
